Back Home

So I’ve been home visiting the parents for a week now, and am still glad I’m not in Missouri. It seems that every time I look at the weather down there it’s raining, storming, or some similar nasty weather.

Here in western Montana, the snow is sticking around later than usual. At the house there’s still a good two feet of it on the ground, leading me to think that there will be a slow start to the fire season around here.

I still am not real sure about graduate school in Missoula. I found out that I had been accepted to the College of Forestry and Conservation, but that the project I was supposed to work on will likely not be funded. So… I’m applying to the Geography department for an MA in Geography with either an emphasis in Cartography and GIS, or Community and Environmental Planning. Either way I go I think that it will work out well, and I’ll be able to get an education that will get me a job when I graduate. While I like fire, there just isn’t much for jobs that pay a living wage in the places I want to live. While I’ll keep playing with fire for as long as I can, the reality is that fire may become a secondary pursuit, and not my full-time, 365 24/7 job.
